- What a sleep test is
Clinical-grade data.
Your own bed.
A sleep test — also called a sleep study — monitors your breathing, oxygen levels, heart rate, and sleep patterns while you sleep. It is the most effective and clinically established method for diagnosing common sleep conditions, including obstructive sleep apnoea, sleep-related breathing disorders, and unexplained daytime fatigue.
At Grace Sleep Clinic in London, our home sleep tests allow you to sleep naturally in your own bed while collecting clinical-grade data — without the disruption, cost, and inconvenience of an overnight hospital admission. The monitoring equipment is lightweight and straightforward to use, and the data it captures is reviewed by our specialist clinical team.
If you are experiencing snoring, daytime fatigue, poor sleep quality, or symptoms suggestive of sleep apnoea, a private sleep test provides clear, objective answers — typically within 48 hours of completing your test.
01
You sleep in your own bed, in your own home. No unfamiliar environment, no hospital ward, no disruption to your normal night.
02
No hospital stay is required. Equipment is provided directly to you and the test is completed in the comfort of your usual surroundings.
03
Modern, clinically validated sleep monitoring technology provides reliable diagnostic data — captured over two nights to account for night-to-night variation.
04
Results and specialist interpretation are provided quickly, so you can understand what is happening with your sleep and begin treatment sooner if needed.
- Key symptoms
Signs you may need a sleep test.
Many people live with disrupted sleep for years without realising the cause is identifiable and treatable. These are the symptoms that most commonly indicate it is time for a sleep test.
01
Particularly snoring that is loud enough to disturb a partner, or that involves pauses in breathing — both are classic indicators worth investigating.
02
Waking suddenly feeling breathless or gasping is a strong indicator of an obstructive breathing event during sleep and warrants assessment.
03
Feeling persistently sleepy during the day despite what seems like adequate time in bed is one of the most common presenting symptoms of sleep apnoea.
04
Disrupted overnight oxygen levels frequently present as morning headaches, and fragmented sleep consistently impairs daytime focus and concentration.

- What we diagnose
Conditions a sleep test can identify.
Sleep testing helps identify a range of sleep disorders that share overlapping symptoms but require different management approaches. An accurate diagnosis is the foundation of effective treatment.
A condition where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep — the most common sleep-related breathing disorder, and the most frequent reason patients are referred for testing.
Limb movements that disturb sleep without the person being aware — resulting in insufficient deep sleep or REM sleep and unexplained daytime fatigue.
Breathing disruptions that reduce sleep quality without the obvious pauses seen in apnoea — often missed without proper testing.
Drops in oxygen levels during sleep — and sleep-related breathing disturbances generally, including subtle irregularities that affect restorative sleep.
- Why choose Grace Sleep
Specialist-led.
Personally delivered.
Grace Sleep Clinic provides specialist-led sleep diagnostics and treatment in London. Our approach combines medical expertise with a personalised, patient-focused experience.
01
Your sleep study is interpreted by experienced sleep specialists — not an automated algorithm. Every result is reviewed by a clinician who understands the full clinical picture, not just the raw data.
02
We use clinically validated sleep monitoring systems over two nights to capture the genuine variation in your sleep — a single night rarely tells the full story, and our approach reflects that.
03
Your treatment plan is tailored to your specific sleep patterns and symptoms — not a generic protocol applied regardless of what your results actually show.
04
If required, we provide guidance for ongoing sleep optimisation and treatment — testing is the starting point, not the end of your journey with us.
- Follow-up
What happens
after your test.
01
Wear the clinically validated monitoring equipment for two nights in your own home, then return it by post. No disruption to your normal routine.
02
Your data is analysed by our clinical team, capturing breathing, oxygen levels, heart rate, and sleep patterns across both nights.
03
We arrange a follow-up consultation to discuss your findings — covering interpretation of your data, diagnosis if present, treatment options, and next steps.
04
Many patients find that identifying the cause of their sleep problems leads to dramatic improvements in energy, focus, and overall health.
- Common questions
Before you
get in touch.
No referral is required to arrange a private sleep test with us. You can book directly without going through your GP, though we always recommend informing your GP of any diagnosis so it can be recorded in your medical notes.
No. The devices we use are lightweight and designed to be worn comfortably overnight without disturbing your normal sleep. Most patients report that the equipment has minimal impact on how they sleep.
Most tests are completed over two nights of sleep. This allows us to capture night-to-night variation in your sleep patterns, which gives a far more reliable picture than a single night of monitoring alone.
If you opt for Test Only, your results will be sent to you within 2 working days of test completion. If you opt for a pathway that includes a consultation, your clinician will run through the results with you directly during that appointment.
Our team will guide you through your treatment options and help you find the most appropriate solution — whether that is CPAP therapy, a mandibular advancement device, lifestyle intervention, or further specialist input. Testing is the start of a supported pathway, not an endpoint.
CBT-I is effective even when insomnia co-exists with anxiety or depression — and treating insomnia often produces meaningful improvement in mood symptoms. Your therapist will assess the interaction between your sleep and any other mental health conditions and adapt the programme accordingly. For complex presentations, a clinical psychologist or Dr Jim Brown may be the more appropriate choice.
Yes. Our home sleep studies are available anywhere in the UK — equipment is posted directly to you, and consultations are conducted via video. Our team is based in London but our service has no geographical boundary.
A brief call with our team is all it takes. We will ask a few questions about your symptoms and recommend the right option — with no obligation to proceed.
A sleep test is one part of our complete sleep medicine offering. If you are already diagnosed and need ongoing CPAP support, or want insomnia treatment, we can support the full picture.
