Clinical-grade data.

Your own bed.

A sleep test — also called a sleep study — monitors your breathing, oxygen levels, heart rate, and sleep patterns while you sleep. It is the most effective and clinically established method for diagnosing common sleep conditions, including obstructive sleep apnoea, sleep-related breathing disorders, and unexplained daytime fatigue.

At Grace Sleep, our home sleep tests allow you to sleep naturally in your own bed while collecting clinical-grade data — without the disruption, cost, and inconvenience of an overnight hospital admission. The monitoring equipment is lightweight and straightforward to use.

The data it captures is reviewed by our specialist clinical team — including GMC-registered consultants — with results typically within 48 hours of completing your test.

If you are unsure which test is right for you, ask our team — a brief call is all it takes.

Signs you may

need a sleep test.

Many people live with disrupted sleep for years without realising the cause is identifiable and treatable. These are the symptoms that most commonly indicate it is time for a sleep test.

01

Loud or frequent snoring

Particularly snoring loud enough to disturb a partner, or that involves pauses in breathing — both are classic indicators worth investigating. A home sleep test can find out if the cause is sleep apnoea.

02

Waking gasping for air

Waking suddenly feeling breathless or gasping is a strong indicator of an obstructive breathing event during sleep and warrants urgent assessment.

03

Excessive daytime sleepiness

Feeling persistently sleepy despite adequate time in bed is one of the most common presenting symptoms of sleep apnoea. A sleep study can tell you why.

04

Morning headaches & poor concentration

Disrupted overnight oxygen levels frequently present as morning headaches. Fragmented sleep consistently impairs daytime focus and cognitive performance.

05

Restless sleep & limb movements

Unexplained twitching, kicking, or restlessness during sleep may indicate periodic limb movement disorder — detectable with our SMED multichannel study.

06

Sleep apnoea & driving

DVLA rules require drivers with known or suspected sleep apnoea to inform the DVLA and must not drive until adequately treated. A formal diagnosis is the first step.

Choose the test

that fits your symptoms.

We offer two home sleep studies — a first-line screening study and a comprehensive diagnostic study. Most people with straightforward snoring or suspected sleep apnoea start with the Pebble. The SMED is for when you need a fuller picture of how you sleep and why.

Start here

Suspected sleep apnoea or snoring

Loud snoring, pauses in breathing, gasping, morning headaches, excessive daytime tiredness. The Acurable Pebble Study (£250) is the right first step.

Respiratory detail

Positional apnoea or richer oxygen data needed

More comprehensive respiratory monitoring including positional data and detailed oxygen analysis. The SMED Multichannel Study (£450).

Sleep staging needed

Unexplained fatigue, restless legs, or unrefreshing sleep

Adds single-lead EEG sleep staging and limb EMG to the SMED platform. SMED + EEG + Limb Leads (£600).

Bruxism

Teeth grinding, jaw clenching, or jaw pain

Adds EEG sleep staging and jaw EMG to the SMED platform. SMED + EEG + Bruxism (£600).

Most complete

Full polysomnography — the gold standard

Full EEG montage, EOG, ECG, complete EMG set. The most comprehensive sleep study available. Full PSG (£2,700)

Conditions a sleep test can identify.

Sleep testing helps identify a range of disorders that share overlapping symptoms but require different management approaches. An accurate diagnosis is the foundation of effective treatment.

Obstructive sleep apnoea

The most common sleep-related breathing disorder — breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. The most frequent reason patients are referred for testing. NHS guidance on sleep apnoea →

Periodic limb movement disorder

Repetitive limb movements during sleep that fragment rest — resulting in insufficient deep sleep, REM sleep, and unexplained daytime fatigue. Often undetected without proper testing.

Upper airway resistance syndrome

Breathing disruptions that reduce sleep quality without the obvious pauses seen in apnoea — often missed without the level of monitoring our SMED study provides.

Nocturnal oxygen desaturation

Drops in overnight oxygen levels — and sleep-related breathing disturbances generally — including subtle irregularities that affect restorative sleep quality.

Results are reviewed by our specialist clinical team — including Dr Rónan AstinDr James Brown, and Louise Berger. Not an automated algorithm. Every result is read by a clinician who understands the full clinical picture.

02

Two-night monitoring

A single night rarely tells the full story. We monitor over two nights to capture genuine variation in your sleep — giving a more reliable and clinically meaningful result.

03

Personalised care

Your treatment plan is tailored to your specific sleep patterns and symptoms — not a generic protocol. Testing is the starting point of a supported pathway, not the end.

04

Complete sleep support

If required, we provide ongoing CPAP therapyinsomnia treatment, and sleep optimisation — a complete sleep medicine service.
